DETROIT, Mich. – Seattle Mariners’ Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster move: Dan Altavilla, RHP, returned from rehab assignment at AA Arkansas and activated from 10-day disabled list.
Altavilla (#53) will be in uniform and available for Game 2 of today’s doubleheader at the Detroit Tigers. (Major League rules allow for a 26th player for the second game of doubleheaders).
Altavilla, 25, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 1 (retroactive to April 30) with right AC joint inflammation. He began a rehab assignment at AA Arkansas on May 10. He pitched 1.0 inning that night, striking out 2.
Dan is 2-2 with 4 holds and a 4.38 ERA (6 ER, 12.1 IP) in 13 relief appearances with the Mariners this season. He has struck out 16 and walked 9 while limiting opponents to a .190 (8×42) average against. He went 1-1 with 2 holds and a 1.29 ERA (1 ER, 7.0 IP) with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks in his first 7 outings of the season (3/29-4/14). Since April 17, he is 1-1 with 2 holds and an 8.44 ERA (5 ER, 5.1 IP) with 7 strikeouts and 6 walks in 6 games.
In 2017, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound right-hander went 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA (22 ER, 46.2 IP) with 52 strikeouts and 20 walks in 41 relief appearances with the Mariners. He also made 20 appearances with AAA Tacoma, where he went 2-0 with 6 saves and a 1.54 ERA (4 ER, 23.1 IP) with 36 strikeouts and 15 walks. In parts of 3 Major League seasons with the Mariners (2016-c), he is 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA (29 ER, 71.1 IP) with 78 strikeouts and 30 walks in 69 games.
The native of McKeesport, PA, was originally selected by Seattle in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Mercyhurst (PA) College. He made his Major League debut with the Mariners on Aug. 27, 2016 at Chicago-AL.
