Mariners activate infielder Dee Gordon from the 10-day disabled list

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners announced two roster moves today. Dee Gordon, INF, has been activated from the 10-day disabled list and Gordon Beckham has been optioned to AAA Tacoma.

Gordon (#9) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s game vs. the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.

Gordon, 30, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right, great toe on May 22 (retroactive to May 21). He is hitting .304 (56×184) with 25 runs, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 13 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .330 on-base percentage in 45 games this season. Despite missing 9 games while on the disabled list, he leads the American League, and ranks 2nd in the Majors, in steals. In a 20-game span prior to going on the disabled list (4/28 – 5/20), he hit .337 (28×83) with 12 runs, 6 doubles, 6 RBI and 7 stolen bases.

He originally injured his right, great toe on May 9 in Toronto, and reinjured it on May 20 vs. Detroit.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder led the National League in steals last season while also ranking T2nd in hits, T3rd in triples, 4th in runs and 9th in games played. He hit .308 with 114 runs, 20 doubles, 9 triples, 2 home runs, 33 RBI and 60 steals in 158 games with Miami. Gordon was acquired by the Mariners from Miami in a four-player trade on Dec. 7, 2017.

Beckham, 31, hit .206 (7×34) with 1 run, 1 double, 1 RBI, 3 walks and 1 stolen bases in 12 games with the Mariners after being selected from AAA Tacoma on May 14. He began the season with Tacoma, where he hit .300 (27×90) with 17 runs, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 15 RBI, 19 walks, a .412 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging mark (.912 OPS) in 25 games. Among Pacific Coast League leaders at the time of his call-up, he ranked T13th in walks and 14th in on-base percentage and OPS.

The 6-foot, 190-pound utility infielder has appeared in 23 games with the Mariners over the course of the last 2 seasons (2017-18), batting .196 (10×51) with 3 runs, 1 double, 1 RBI, 4 walks and 2 stolen bases.

In parts of 10 Major League seasons with Chicago-AL (2009-14, 2015), Los Angeles-AL (2014), Atlanta (2016), San Francisco (2016) and Seattle (2017-c), he is a career .239 (758×3170) hitter with 174 doubles, 5 triples, 74 home runs and 336 RBI in 976 career games. The native of Atlanta, Georgia was a 1st round selection (8th overall) by the Chicago White Sox in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Georgia.
