WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Unemployment in Whatcom County took a sharp dive in April.

Preliminary numbers from the state Employment Security Department show we had a jobless rate of just 5.8 percent last month, down from a revised rate of 7 percent in March.

It was also a full point lower than the local unemployment rate of 6.8 percent in April 2013.
