PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Cleveland Browns needed just about everything when the NFL draft began on Thursday. They made defense their first priority by taking Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, making him the first Aggie to be taken first overall.

The junior All-American possesses dynamic passing rushing skills and was unblockable when healthy last season. Garrett joins a team that went 1-15 last season.

The Bears moved up to the No. 2 slot and grabbed junior quarterback Mitchell Trubisky of North Carolina. Trubisky became one of the most coveted signal-callers in the draft after throwing for over 3,700 yards, 30 touchdowns and just six interceptions for the Tar Heels in 2016.

The San Francisco 49ers made their selection after swapping picks with Chicago. The Niners took sophomore defensive end Solomon Thomas of nearby Stanford with the third choice.

Jacksonville took a running back with the fourth pick, getting LSU’s Leonard Fournette. He ran for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns as a sophomore, but an ankle injury and his expected draft status limited him to seven games last season.

Western Michigan wideout Corey Davis went fifth to the Tennessee Titans. Davis is the FBS career leader in receiving yards with 5,285.

The New York Jets took LSU safety Jamal Adams with the No. 6 pick before San Diego snared Clemson receiver Mike Williams.

Carolina used the eighth selection to land versatile running back Christian McCaffrey, who set an NCAA record with 3,864 all-purpose yards in 2015.

The Bengals spent the ninth pick on speedy receiver John Ross from Washington.

Kansas City moved up 17 spots and came away with Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the 10th pick after the Chiefs made a deal with Buffalo. The Bulls received the 27th selection, a third-rounder this weekend and a first-round choice next year.

Two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson was taken 12th overall by the Houston Texans. And the Oakland Raiders used the No. 24 pick to select Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley despite rape allegations that he calls “completely false.”
