Hommes, Point Loma to play for D2 national championship

The Point Loma Nazarene University basketball team will play for the Division Two national championship Saturday afternoon.  The team, led by Whatcom County’s own Daulton Hommes and Sterling Somers, beat Southern Indiana in the semi-finals Thursday night 81-71.  Hommes led Point Loma with 20 points in the win.

Point Loma moves on to the national championship game against top-ranked, undefeated Northwest Missouri State Saturday at noon.  The game will be televised nationally on CBS.

Hommes also got the word Thursday he’s been named the Division Two National Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.  He’ll get his award April 7th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
