LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say former NBA player Brandon Roy was shot while attending a party in Southern California over the weekend.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Williams said Wednesday that Roy was one of four people shot in Compton on Saturday.

He said Roy and the three other victims were attending a party when two men walked up and opened fire without saying a word.

Williams said all four victims were shot in the upper body but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.

A report by Stefanie Loh of the the Seattle Times questions whether Roy was acutally shot.  The Times says at least three players on the Nathan Hale High School team, where Roy is the coach, have disputed the report.  An e-mail to the Times from senior guard Kateel Barnett said, “The allegations are false. Coach Brandon Roy is fine.”

The Times goes on to say, “When asked Wednesday afternoon if he could confirm whether Hale’s basketball coach was the person injured in the Compton shooting, Luke Duecy, a Seattle Public Schools communications specialist said: “We are aware of the rumors and speculations, and we’re looking into it.”

Roy was a shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers and won the NBA’s Rookie of The Year award in 2007.
