Five former star athletes inducted into the WWU Hall of Fame

Five elite athletes were inducted into the Western Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame during its 50th anniversary Saturday. Here is this year’s class of the inductees:

Anne Cooper * Women’s Basketball* Forward

Anne was the school’s all-time block leader with a win-loss record of 94-27 during her four-year career at WWU from 1982 to 1986. She also ranked in the school’s top 10 in points, rebounds and assists. She also helped lead her team to a 29-game home court winning streak.

Alison Haukaas*Softball*Pitcher

As a walk-on freshman in 1995, Alison helped her team earn WWU’s first national championship at the NAIA National Tournament after pitching a complete-game victory for the Vikings.

Joni Slagle*Women’s Basketball*Forward

Joni was a huge contributor to the 1976-1977 WWU team making it to the Intercollegiate Athletics for Women National Tournament averaging 20.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. The team upset Boise State to continue their 13-game winning streak and send them to the national tournament with Joni having a team-high 20 points.

Katja Trygg*Women’s Golf

Katja holds many records in women’s golf including the best season scoring average, lowest scoring round, tournament medalist performances and top finish at nationals. She earned a first-team National Golf Coaches Association All-American her junior and senior year along with Western’s Female Athlete of the Year after helping lead the Vikings to the best campaign in program history and a third consecutive fifth-place finish at nationals.

Jason Stiles*Football*Quarterback

Jason was a true leader for the WWU Football team, leading them to their first undefeated regular season since 1938. A four-year starter from 1992-1995, he had a 30-9 record during his time at Western and finished as the school’s career leader in yards passing and touchdown passes. Earning an honorable mention NAIA All-American as a senior, he helped get the football teams first number one ranking in the final national poll.
