In just his second year as head coach, former Ferndale High School star quarterback Doug Pederson has led the Philadelphia Eagles to the best record in the NFL. Philadelphia improved to 6-and-1 with a 34-24 win over the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie hired Pederson to be Philly’s head coach in 2016. His only head coaching experience at the time was at of Calvary Baptist Academy, a private, Christian high school in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Despite no previous NFL head coaching experience, Pederson does have a strong pedigree. The 49-year-old former three sport prep athlete played quarterback in the NFL for 5 different teams from 1991 to 2004. He also served as an assistant coach for Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs from 2009 – 2015. Before getting the Eagles job, Pederson was thought to be one of the best quarterback coaches and rising offensive coordinators in the league.
Maybe it should come as no surprise to see Reid’s Chiefs tied for the best record in the AFC at the same time Pederson has the Eagles on top of the NFC.
