The Ferndale 12U baseball team has won the Cal Ripken World Series. Ferndale beat the Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion, Cedar Cliff out of Pennsylvania, 6-to-4 Thursday in Clemmons, North Carolina.

Dylan Strom hit a grand slam and combined with Isiah Carlson on the mound to get the win. Strom was named the tournament MVP, while Carlson, Jacob Mason and Andrew Jones joined him on the All-Tourney Team.

Ferndale coach Bill Hatchet told KPUG the win was pretty exciting. “The kids, it’s all about them,” said Hatchett. “Most of them haven’t experienced anything quite like this, so to see the joy on their faces is awesome.”

Ferndale finishes the tournament with a 6-and-1 overall record at the Cal Ripken World Series, including a 3-and-1 mark in pool play. Ferndale’s only loss was to Cedar Cliff to open the tournament.

According to discoverferndale.com, fans will line Main Street in Ferndale to welcome back the team Friday night. The squad is scheduled to arrive at SeaTac Airport at 5:35pm.
