Legendary University of Washington football coach Don James will be honored with a statue at Husky Stadium. As part of it’s “Purple Reign” campaign, the university announced the unveiling date of the statue, which was created through funds raised by Washington football alumni.
The statue will be located in the northwest plaza, alongside that of longtime head coach Jim Owens, and will be unveiled as part of the Homecoming weekend on October 28th, prior to the Huskies’ game against UCLA.
James coached the Dawgs from 1975–to-1992 compiling a record of 153–57–2. He led the Huskies to a co-national championship with Miami in 1991. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. James passed away from pancreatic cancer in October of 2013 at the age of 80.
The university also announced that the longtime “Voice of the Huskies” Bob Rondeau will honored November 25th at the Apple Cup. Rondeau is retiring after the season after 37 years behind the mic for the purple and gold.
