In the high school basketball district tournament, Lynden Christian boys took home the 1A District title against Nooksack Valley Saturday night in a battle at Mount Vernon High School. Coach DeBoer and his Lyncs defeated the Pioneers 72-34. Now the District Champions get the luxury of resting until Friday, in which they battle Northwest University in the Bi-District Championship game. The game will be hosted at Mountlake Terrace with an 8pm tip-off. Nooksack Valley will have to fight to stay alive in a loser out game Wednesday night at Mountlake Terrace at 7pm.
The Mount Baker boys fell to King’s 70-53 in a 1A battle for third place at Mount Vernon High School. The Mountaineers will take fourth in Districts and head to University Prep to battle in a loser out game Monday night at 7pm. The winner of the game will go on to play Nooksack Valley in a battle that could either secure or end one’s chances to play in Regionals.
Lynden continues their journey to the 2A District Championship game after crushing Lakewood 66-39. The Lions advance to take on Sedro-Woolley Tuesday night at Mount Vernon High School at 7pm. If they defeat the Cubs, they will have a chance to battle for the District title Saturday, February 17th.
Ferndale had a tough loss against Arlington 69-59. They will now have to beat Medowdale in a Valentine’s Day edition of a loser out game Wednesday night at 7pm.
On the girls side, Lynden Christian became 1A District Champions at Mount Vernon High School when they beat Nooksack Valley 66-54. The Lyncs will now travel to Mountlake Terrace and battle Seattle Academy for the Bi-District Championship title Friday night at 6pm. The Pioneers will have to win their next game Thursday night at Kamiak High School at 7:45pm. They will play the winner of Tuesday night’s battle between King’s and Annie Wright.
Meridian defeated King’s 57-25 which gives them the advantage of playing on their home court Tuesday night at 7pm as the take on University Prep in a loser out game.
