TACOMA, Wash. — U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D) and Republican challenger Susan Hutchison held their first of two debates Monday, which kicked off on a fiery note.

“The last thing we need right now in Washington is a rubber stamp of the Trump agenda,” said Cantwell in her opening statement.

Hutchison retorted with, “Even Democrats come up to me and say, “Susan, I’m voting for you because I can’t take it anymore. Things have gotten so crazy.'”

Over the course of the hour-long debate, they addressed issues from trade to health care, beginning with the #MeToo movement.

“These people need to be heard,” said Cantwell.

Hutchison said, “I know the #MeToo movement. I was in television news for two decades….I was a victim of it like so many women in the workplace.”

A former Seattle news anchor and State Republican Party chair, Susan Hutchison is challenging incumbent Cantwell who is running for her fourth term in the U.S. Senate.
