Brad Jones of Bellingham placed in the top 10 of three individual events and the top three of two relays in his age group at the U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championship, conducted May 10-13 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jones, 52, competed in the men’s 50-54 age group at the meet, which set a record by attracting nearly 2,600 participants, including former Olympians. Representing Puget Sound Masters, Jones placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.83), eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:42.81), 10th in the 50-yard butterfly (25.26) and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (56.28).
Jones also swam on relay teams for Puget Sound Masters. His team in the men’s 45+ age group that included Maoz Alsberg, Todd Doherty and Mats Nygren, all of Seattle, placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.88). The team of Jones, Doherty, Nygren and David Kays of Seattle finished third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.04).
The meet was conducted at the Indiana University Natatorium.
Jones, the practitioner/owner at Rolfing Bellingham, is the strength and conditioning coach for the Bellingham Bay Swim Team. He also has finished high in national and international kettlebell lifting competitions.
