The Bellingham Bells got a solo homerun from Matt James in the top of the eighth inning to help beat the Victoria Harbourcats, 4-3 and win the series.

Bellingham grabbed an early lead for the second night in a row as they scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead.

Ben Leeper was dominant in the starting role for the Bells today. He threw three shutout innings while striking out seven and allowing just two runners to reach base.

Connor Mack homered in the fourth inning to extend the Bells lead to 2-0 and they added another in the fifth to make it 3-0.

Victoria would respond in the bottom of the fifth inning though scoring three runs to tie the ballgame at three.

The score would stay that way until the top of the eighth inning when James took a 1-2 pitch and sent it over the left-center field wall to make it 4-3 Bells.

It was James’ third homer of the season, which ties him for the team lead.

Taylor Davis came on in the seventh inning for the Bells and he got the final out of the inning before shutting it down in the final two innings to get the win.

The win sends the Bells to a league best 15-6 on the year and they now lead the WCL North by 4.5 games over Victoria.

Bellingham finished their six game road trip 5-1 and have now won 10 of their last 11 games.

The Bells will take the week off from league play and will play the Seattle Wallbangers and the Highline Bears on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:35.
