The Bellingham Bells lead for most of the game but a late rally from the Portland Pickles (31-15) tied the game and sent it to extras where Portland ultimately walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning to win 3-2.

For the fourth time this season, the Bells and Pickles engaged in a pitchers dual.

Theron Kay was locked in for the Bellingham Bells tossing six scoreless innings for the second straight start.

Bellingham got on the scoreboard in the third inning with a solo homerun from Connor Mack.

The Bells got another big run in the sixth on Mack’s RBI double to center to make it 2-0 Bells.

Portland was able to string together a couple of hits in the seventh inning to push two runs across and tie the game at two.

Portland had a prime chance to take the lead in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs, but they could not capitalize as Austin Weiermiller got out of the jam.

They had another chance to win it in the ninth when they got a runner to third with only one out but a failed suicide squeeze sent the game to extras.

It was the ninth time this season the Bells went to extra innings and after they could not score in the top of the tenth the Pickles came to the plate with a chance to win it.

Gio Diaz led off the inning with a double and represented the winning run.

After Joey Cooper struck out, Davis Delorefice lined a single to left field and Diaz ran through the stop sign to come home and score the winning run.

The win gives the Pickles posession of first place in the WCL and makes them the first team to 31 wins on the year.

Game 2 of the series will be on tonight at 7:05 in Portland, You can hear the game with a 6:35 pre-game start and 7:05 first pitch on 98.9 FM KBAY and on-line at 989KBAY.com.
