Bells clinch playoff spot with late rally

The Bellingham Bells scored three unanswered runs from the seventh inning on to clinch the first half West Coast League North title and secure their spot in the post season.

Grant Holman got the ball to start for the Bells and gave the Bells five quality innings allowing just two runs on two hits through five innings of work.

Bellingham struggled to get the bats going early as they fell into a 2-0 hole after the fourth inning.

The Bells had just one hit through six innings but the tide turned in the seventh inning.

The Pippins walked the bases loaded and the Bells were able to tie the game after Jack Machtolf singled home a run.

The Bells bullpen was equally as dominant as Holman today as Davis Baille, Austin Weiermiller and Taylor Davis locked it down from the sixth inning on.

Tied at two going into the top of the ninth inning, the Bells were able to put a couple of runners on base before Jordan Stoner blooped a single into right field to score the go-ahead run and put the Bells in front 3-2.

Weiermiller got credited with his first win of the year and Taylor Davis came on to lock down his sixth save of the season.

The win gave the Bells their first North Division first half title since the WCL switched the that format in 2016.

The first round of the playoffs will be held on August 10-12, and the Bells are the first team in the WCL to secure their spot.

Bellingham will go for the series sweep against Yakima on Sunday at 6:05.
