The Bellingham Bells are pleased to announce the signing of three Washington Huskies to the 2018. Chris Micheles, Michael Petrie and Mason Cerrillo will be headed to Bellingham to try and help bring the Bells another WCL Championship.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our long-standing relationship with Coach Meggs and the University of Washington,” Bells General Manager Stephanie Morrell said. “Over the past several years, UW players have consistently performed well for the Bells and have also been great teammates and community ambassadors. We are proud to be continuing this partnership with a fantastic Pac-12 baseball program that is just down the I-5 corridor.”
Mason Cerrillo is a five-foot eight-inch outfielder from Auburn, Wash.
Cerrillo is a junior transfer student who is in his first season with the Huskies after attending Washington State as a freshman and Bellevue College as a sophomore.
Last season at Bellevue, Cerrillo played in 43 games, earning first team All-NWAACC after hitting .353 with a home run and 14 doubles.
Prior to heading to Washington State, Cerrillo was a four-year letter winner at Auburn-Mountainview High School. As a senior, Cerrillo hit .410 with 19 runs batted in. He was also selected to play for the Seattle Mariners fall scout team during his senior season.
Cerrillo also comes from a winning background as he helped his team win a state championship as a sophomore, guiding them to a 26-3 record.
“Mason Cerrillo is a great addition to the Bells, as he is a talented outfielder with a knack for getting on base,” Morrell said. “We look forward to the contributions we know he will make to the Bells this summer.”
Cerrillo has been tabbed as the starting left-fielder for the Huskies at the beginning of the season.
Joining Cerrillo in the field will be catcher, Michael Petrie.
Petrie is currently in his second year at UW and is getting ready to suit up behind the plate for the Huskies.
Petrie took a redshirt year as a freshman but is getting set to go for his first year of action.
Petrie is originally from Mercer Island, Wash. and had a lot of success at the prep level at Mercer Island High School.
He hit .405 and drove in 15 runs as a senior in 2016. As a junior, Petrie helped to lead his team to a Washington state championship as a junior and was also named All-State First Team.
Petrie is slated to play a role in the Huskies lineup once the season gets into full swing.
“We are really excited to have Michael joining the Bells. Not only is he a great asset behind the plate, he’s also known for his ability to be a spark offensively,” Morrell said. “Michael is a talented player who we know the fans will enjoy watching this summer.”
One of the guys that Petrie will be catching this spring and summer is left-handed pitcher, Chris Micheles.
Micheles is in his second season with the Huskies and is coming off of a tremendous freshmen season.
Micheles made 13 starts on the season, which was second most on the team, and the Huskies notched a 9-4 record in games in which he started.
The lefty recorded an ERA of 4.38 in 51.1 innings pitched as a freshman.
“Chris brings valuable Pac-12 experience, having been a key contributor on the 2017 UW pitching staff,” Morrell said. “Poised to be a regular starter for the Huskies in 2018, we are confident that Chris will be a key piece of the Bells’ pitching staff this summer. We can’t wait to see him compete for the Bells.”
Micheles is a native of Puyallup, Wash. and was outstanding at Puyallup High School.
He was named First Team All-USA Today Washington after his senior year where he held a 1.07 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched while striking out 87.
According to the University of Washington Athletics page, UW head coach, Lindsay Meggs, said Micheles is the most improved player coming into this season and that improvement has earned Micheles the role of a Saturday starter for the Huskies.
Cerrillo, Petrie and Micheles will be ready to join the Bells this summer as they will look to try and help Bellingham get back to the top of the West Coast League.
