The Bellingham Bells have another pair of southpaws getting ready to join their rotation this summer. Wesley Moore from California State University – Northridge and Logan Hatley from Oregon State will be making the trip to Bellingham this summer.
Moore is currently in his first season with the Matadors and is already starting to make a big impact. Originally from Surrey, British Columbia, the six-foot two-inch left-hander has given CSUN a great boost in their rotation.
Through four starts this season, Moore is 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA. In 19 innings pitched, he has given up just 18 hits and allowed only seven earned runs while striking out 21.
The Matadors are 2-2 in games in which Moore has started and opponents are hitting just .243 against him.
Moore graduated from Vauxhall Academy in 2017 and also spent time playing for Team Canada’s U-18 Junior National Team. At the World Baseball Softball Confederation World Cup, the lefty made three appearances and compiled a 1-1 record with a 4.78 ERA.
“Wesley Moore is a talented left-handed pitcher from British Columbia,” Bells pitching coach Jim Clem said. “Everyone I’ve talked to about Wesley has nothing but great things to say about him. He’s a very solid pitcher for such a young player. He is making an immediate impact as a starting pitcher at CSUN. He throws three quality pitches, is a strike-thrower, and competes. On top of all that, he fits well as a Bell and will be great to have as teammate in our clubhouse. Very excited to have Wesley on our team.”
Joining Moore on the Bells this summer will be Logan Hatley.
Hatley is currently in his junior year at Oregon State, the nation’s No. 1 ranked team.
Hatley spent his first two seasons with Linn-Benton Community College and was sensational in his time there. The southpaw collected a 12-4 record with a 3.03 ERA over two seasons at LBCC. In 110 innings pitched, he allowed just 69 hits and struck out 118.
Hatley has spent previous time in the West Coast League, making two appearances with the Bend Elks back in 2016. His second appearance capped off one of the best pitching performances in WCL history. Hatley came into the game in the ninth inning against Corvallis on June 4, 2016 and replaced Kris Jackson who had a no-hitter going through
eight innings.
Hatley came on and struck out the side to cap off the combined no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Knights.
It was just the ninth no-hitter in WCL history.
“Logan Hatley is a lefty who had two outstanding years at Linn-Benton Community College where he compiled a 12-4 record as a starting pitcher, before redshirting this year at Oregon State University,” Clem said. “We expect Logan to be a key performer for our staff. He has proven he can pitch, and because he has redshirted this spring, he should come in with a fresh arm, ready for the summer experience. It’s great to have Oregon State represented on our roster. We are excited to have Logan on our team, because we really believe he will help us.”
Hatley is originally from Dallas, Ore. At Dallas High School, he was named first-team all-Mid-Willamette Conference.
Hatley and Moore will be two more weapons on the Bells pitching staff and join an already deep rotation that will be on full display on June 1.
