BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham High School guard Rits Voeut has been selected to join the Bellingham Slam for the upcoming 2017 Seattle Pro-Am season.

As a junior during the 2016-17 season, Voeut was a key member of a resurgent Red Raiders squad which reached the third-place game of the 2-A district tournament, finishing with a 15-9 record.

Voeut, a 5-foot-9 point guard, averaged 10 points, two assists and two steals per game for Bellingham last year, which finished with a 15-9 record. He helped to turn around a team which finished last in the Northwest Conference the season prior. He recorded a season-high four steals in a 59-44 win over Granite Falls on December 6.

Seattle Pro-Am league rules require each team to carry one high school player on its roster in an effort to showcase some of the region’s up-and-coming prep basketball talent. With his selection by the Slam, Voeut will be one of just eight high school players competing in this year’s Pro-Am and will give him the opportunity to compete alongside elite-level athletes, including players who are household names in the NBA.

Last season, the Slam filled their high school roster spot with Lummi Nation guard Trazil Lane, who returns to the team in 2017 filling one of its two roster positions reserved for collegiate-eligible players.

The Slam will open play at the 2017 Seattle Pro-Am on Saturday at Noon versus the Vancouver Battle, as the league tips off its 22nd season. It will be the first of nine regular season games for the Slam taking place each weekend this summer at Seattle Pacific University’s Royal Brougham Pavilion.
