Anthony Dean named third team all-west region by United Soccer coaches

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University men’s soccer senior forward Anthony Dean has been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Third Team, announced Tuesday from the organization’s headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
Dean (Amsterdam, The Netherlands/Bellevue College) earned All-West Region Third Team honors for the second consecutive season as one of 12 members on the Third Team.

During his senior season, Dean led the WWU offense in points and goals while tying for a team high in assists in totaling 25 points via 11 goals and 3 assists. He ranked 2nd among GNAC leaders in points and points per game average (1.47) as well as goals and goals per game average (.65) while also leading the conference with 67 total shots and a 3.94 shots per game average.

Starting all 17 games during the season, Dean had at least 1 goal or assist in each of the first eight games of the season to tie for most consecutive games with a point (since year 2000) in WWU history.

After transferring to WWU from Bellevue College, Dean totaled 46 points, 19 goals and 8 assists over his two-year career to rank 10th in WWU history among leading goal scorers and 12th in points. He was an All-GNAC Second Team selection as a junior last season before being named a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection during his senior season.

Dean was one of eight GNAC players named All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches. The members of the All-West Region First Team are eligible for All-America selection. The United Soccer Coaches will announce All-America honorees Wednesday night from the NCAA Division II Final Four in Kansas City.

WWU men’s soccer concluded the 2017 campaign 6-6-5 overall with a 5-4-3 mark in GNAC play.
