MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Seattle Mariners left-handed pitcher James Paxton has been named co-American League Player of the Week for May 7-13. It is the 3rd such honor in Paxton career (also: April 10-16, 2017 and July 24-30, 2017).

Paxton joins Randy Johnson as the only pitchers in club history to earn 3 Player of the Week honors.

Paxton shares this week’s honors with Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Paxton went 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (3 ER, 15.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks in 2 starts at Toronto (May 8) and at Detroit (May 13). On May 8 at the Blue Jays, Paxton tossed the 6th no-hitter in club history, the 5th by an individual pitcher. The no-hitter also marked Paxton’s first career complete game and first career shutout. The native of Ladner, British Columbia, Canada, became the 2nd Canadian-born pitcher in Major League history to throw a no-hitter, joining Dick Fowler, who tossed a no-no against the St. Louis Browns in the second game of a doubleheader on Sept. 9, 1945 for the Philadelphia Athletics.

Overall this season, Paxton is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA (21 ER, 53.2 IP) with 71 strikeouts and 19 walks in 9 starts (6 quality starts). He has limited opponents to a .206 (41×199) average against while posting 11.91 strikeouts-per-9.0-innings-pitched. Among American League leaders this season, he ranks 3rd in K/9.0 IP, 4th in strikeouts, 8th in innings pitched and 12th in opponents’ average against.
