BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Flu season is approaching and a national health expert is recommending people get immunized early to make sure that this year’s flu season isn’t as bad as lasts.
Dr. Harry Leider, Chief Medical Officer of Walgreens, says the flu may not seem like a big deal until you catch it.
Walgreens recently conducted a survey that found last year’s flu season had up to three times more of an impact than a typical year.
Adults missed 230 million days of work and kids missed 91 million days of school because of the flu last winter.
Dr. Leider says it’s important to get a flu shot before the season hits because it takes two weeks for your body to develop immunity.
He says last year’s flu season was extra bad because it peaked early, before many people were fully immunized.
