SEATTLE, Wash. (Metro) -- Supermarkets and other retail outlets in Seattle are no longer offering plastic bags with which to package your purchases.
The Seattle City Council approved a ban on plastic bags in December, and the new law took effect yesterday.
The ordinance was pushed by those who want to rid the environment of plastic bags, while opponents of the ban say the plastic bags are recyclable and reusable for many purposes.
Those who don't bring their reusable bags to the store can purchase a paper bag for a nickel.
