Park Vote Too Close To Call

Bellingham, Wash. -- A special election on whether to establish a metropolitan park district in southwest Bellingham is too close to call.

The Chuckanut Community Forest Park District proposal is winning with just over 50-percent of the vote, but there is just a 44 vote difference with about 200 votes left to count.

If the measure passes, property owners in the district west of I5 and south of Western Washington University would be taxed 28-cents per $1,000 of assessed value to help pay for the Chuckanut Ridge property, also known as the Hundred Acre Wood.

The next vote count will be released this afternoon.
