Lawmakers Looking To Extend Child Sex-Abuse Statute Of Limitations

Olympia, Wash.  (Metro)  -- A bill that would extend the statute of limitations on cases involving child sexual abuse is being heard in the Senate Law and Justice Committee.

Under Senate Bill 5100, rape cases involving victims younger than 18 would be allowed to be prosecuted until the victim turns 30, remove the current requirement that the crime be reported within a year after it's committed, and expand the statute of limitations for other sex crimes involving minors.

A companion bill is being considered in the House.
