Increased Number Of Crashes Caused By Drowsy Driving

The Washington State Patrol says drowsy, sleepy drivers are causing a growing number of car crashes.

A Bellingham woman was injured and had to be taken to the hospital after troopers say she fell asleep at the wheel and crashed at the roundabout on the Guide at Pole Road early Monday morning.

Trooper Keith Leary says drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving.

This week is national drowsy driving prevention week.

Tooper Leary says if you find yourself becoming drowsy behind the wheel, take the next exit and find a safe spot to close your eyes for a few minutes.

In 2010, 16 drivers were killed and 60 were seriously injured in our state because of drowsy driving.
