Officials say that in 2011, women in Washington made just over $740 per week on average while their male counterparts made nearly $1,000.
Bureau of Labor Statistics’ economist Amar Mann says the pay gap is partly due to the fact that men dominate the state’s high-paying high-tech jobs, while a large number of women in Washington work in community service and the nonprofit sector.
Washington’s wage disparity ranks 48 out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
