Doug Lange

DougLangeWhy Sports Radio?
Fallback plan after failing to achieve my ultimate goal of taxidermy. Don’t tell my parents, they think I’m still perfecting the craft.

Did You Play Sports As A Kid?
Yes, the big three: Football, baseball and basketball. I even played a little soccer as a kid although I loathe it now. In High School, I turned my attention to tennis as my dreams of an NBA hoops career faded into the obscurity of Frosh squad and JV games.

Where is Your Hometown?
I was born on the mean streets of Seattle, but spent my formative gang
years in Edmonds, Washington. Interesting tidbit about Edmonds: As you grow older in Edmonds you move closer to the water until finally you walk in and die.

What’s Your Favorite Sport?
I’m all about hoops baby! NBA, NCAA, preps, you name it I love it. I still declare myself eligible for the NBA draft every year. One day somebody will want a slow 6’2″ shooting guard with very little range, bad ankles and an attitude to match.

Where Do You Like To Kick It?
Anywhere an old guy like me can say, “kick it” and not get laughed at. Place you will never find me: garage sales, mime class, speeling bea, potato salad eat-off or jogging.

Who Is The Most Famous Person You’ve Met?
I’ve met a ton of sports guys, my all-time favorite being Ricky Henderson (the best player in MLB history!). In the regular celebrity world I’m going with Keri Russell, TV’s “Felicity” who I shared drinks with at Balthazar restaurant in New York. OK so maybe she was next to me at the bar while I was having drinks and I was too intimidated to speak, but it counts.

Most Memorable Sports Moment?
Highlight: Being on-court covering the team right after the Sonics won the Western Conference Championship in 1996. Lowlight: Thinking Nate McMillan was running over to high five or hug me after the win, only to have him run past me to his family as I grasped at air, hoping no one saw me.

Favorite Band?
Too many to just pick one, o here it goes: Stone Temple Pilots, Beck, Judas Priest (gotta have some metal in there), Lenny Kravitz, old fat Elvis and young mean Frank Sinatra.

What Can You Not Live Without?
Coca-Cola, beef jerky or salted, cured meat snacks, softball, plasma TV and Tivo, Sonics basketball and sarcasm.

Any Final Thoughts?
Gotta go with my favorite quotes:
“Only time will tell if we can stand the test of time” Sammy Hagar of Van Halen and master of the obvious.
“At least you’re more of a smart-ass than a dumb-ass” Mr. Laporte, my high school guidance counselor. Why do you think I’m so successful today!
