LYNDEN, Wash. -- A Canadian murder suspect has been captured at the Lynden border crossing.
Customs and Border Protection officers arrested 21-year-old Travis Baumgartner when he arrived at the Lynden port of entry just after 3 p.m. Saturday.
Baumgartner is suspected of killing three armed guards and robbing an armored car on the campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton on Friday.
The robbery left a fourth victim in critical condition. Baumgartner was driving a blue pickup truck with fake Alberta license plates when he arrived in Lynden.
Customs Chief Thomas Schreiber says officers immediately removed Baumgartner from the vehicle and secured him in a holding cell when they revealed his identity.
Officers found no weapons in the vehicle, but they discovered a backpack stuffed with a large sum of Canadian cash believed to be the proceeds of the armored car robbery.
